An unsettled weekend then less cold next week

An unsettled couple of days ahead. Low pressure brings the risk of gales and some snow over high ground on Saturday, ahead of milder weather spreading from the west. By the end of the weekend conditions will be quieter although things change again as rain bands spread east next week.

Sunday 16/12/18
A showery southwest flow develops through Sunday with low pressure northwest of Scotland. This is going to be bringing a mix of sunshine and showers with milder weather for most areas. The showers tending to be affecting western and southern coasts and hills. Perhaps turning to more persistent rain over southern areas of England later. Highs at 6 to 9C.

Monday 17/12/18
A deep area of low pressure to the west of Scotland on Monday. Rain clears east to be followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. However, increasing winds return to the west through the afternoon and evening, together with a risk of gales. Temperatures at 5 to 11C.

 

Tuesday 18/12/18
Low pressure west of Ireland on Tuesday. Fronts passing east bringing cloud, wind and rain, some of it heavy. Highs at 5 to 11C.

 
 
 

Wednesday 19/12/18
Low pressure over Ireland on Wednesday. This brings cooler conditions with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers will be heavy in the west where they could merge to longer spells of rain at times. Tops at 5 to 10C.

Thursday 20/12/18
Low pressure is again in control through Thursday. There will be a mix of sunshine and showers, but some places may stay dry all day. Highs at 4 to 9C.

Friday 21/12/18
A slack pressure flow on Friday. A risk of some mist and fog patches, these slowly clearing. The day should then be dry with sunny spells developing. Highs at 4 to 8C.
