Relatively mild this weekend, becoming cooler next week

A settled spell of weather is forecast with relatively mild temperatures persisting for southern Britain. The northwest will see outbreaks of rain but it will remain dry for southern areas during the next week to 10 days. Some foggy mornings are expected as high pressure and light winds dominate.

Saturday 20/10/18
A ridge of high pressure extends across the south, while an area of low pressure centred to the northwest of Iceland brings fresh southwesterly winds and outbreaks of rain to northern and western areas. Breezy with some rain for northwest Scotland and Ireland, elsewhere dry and relatively mild. The best of the sun will be in the south and east of England. Highs 14 to 17C.


Sunday 21/10/18
Dry and bright for many across central and southern areas but cloudy with outbreaks of rain for northern and western parts of the British Isles. The rain will move slowly southeastward throughout the day reaching northern and central parts of England by the afternoon. Winds picking up across the country but it will remain dry and relatively mild in the south. Highs of 10 to 18C.


Monday 22/10/18
A chance of outbreaks of rain for coastal fringes of Ireland, northwestern Scotland and the northern isles. A dry and bright day everywhere else with the best of the sunshine in the southeast of England. A cooler day overall with a fresh to strong west to northwesterly breeze in the northern half of the country. Winds will be lighter across the south. Highs of 11-14C.


Tuesday 23/10/18
An area of high pressure is centred to the south-west of Ireland bringing a westerly to northwesterly breeze to Ireland and Scotland. Northwestern parts of Scotland may see some showery rain. Mainly fair elsewhere with morning fog in central and southern areas, and light frost locally. Highs of 11 to 14C.


Wednesday 24/10/18
The area of high pressure will remain centred over the British Isles on Wednesday. A largely bright and dry day is expected though some light showers may develop in northwestern Scotland and Ireland. Winds will be lighter than Tuesday and temperatures will be lower with highs of 8 to 15C.

Thursday 25/10/18
High pressure remains over the country on Thursday bringing another bright and dry day for most though northwestern areas of England, Scotland and Ireland will see freshening winds and showers developing through the late afternoon and evening. High temperatures will be similar to Wednesday at 10 to 15C.
