Easterly winds central Europe

Wednesday
Thundery rain will be breaking out again across central-southern Europe as slack low pressure stays in charge here. Areas of rain developing widely from central Spain to southern France, the Alps, Italy, Balkans, Romania and mainland Greece. Drier, but with scattered showers for Portugal and southern Costas of Spain.
An easterly wind affects northern-central Europe, with cooler air for the Low Countries, Germany and Poland, but here it will be generally dry, highs 9 to 12C. Some showers for Finland and the Baltic states, but Scandinavia will be dry overall under a broad and persistent area of high pressure which will dominate the days ahead. Sunshine for Norway and Sweden. Chilly temperatures however, with extensive hard frost overnight and the far north staying near or below zero by day.

Thursday
Low pressure will reside over central-southern Europe, producing further areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms for Italy, the Balkans and Mediterranean islands. A dry day for much of Spain and Portugal, with temperatures topping 20C around southern Costas. Greece and Cyprus should also stay dry.
Rain also affects Romania and Ukraine, with snow over the mountains. A brisk easterly wind continues for northern-central Europe - largely dry, but with a cooler feel for Germany, Poland and the Low Countries, highs 7 to 11C. Chilly across Scandinavia, with north to northeasterly winds, and temperatures only just above freezing by day.
