Spain and Portugal will be dry with sunshine. Warmest temperatures up to 15C in the south-east. A few showers around the Balearics. Unsettled for Italy and Greece, with heavy rain, or snow on the mountains. Snow affects the Alps on the French-Italian border, but much of France will be dry with sunshine. High pressure over Scandinavia dominates the weather pattern across northern Europe, producing bitter easterly winds. Highs of 1 or 2C in Germany, but staying below freezing across eastern Europe. A risk of some snow flurries for Ukraine and Romania. Possible snow for northern Norway and Sweden, but a lot of dry weather influences central-northern Europe with variable cloud and sunshine. Eastern countries generally cloudier.

A strong block of high pressure over Scandinavia ushers bitterly cold air out of Russia into eastern Europe. Widely sub-zero during the daytime. Increasingly cold conditions also spread into central areas. A lot of dry weather for northern Europe. Bands of snow showers possible around Baltic coasts, running into Poland and northern Germany. Windy for the Alps, southern Germany and central-northern France. Snow flurries affect Norway. Meanwhile, southern Europe is unsettled. Snow for northern and central Italy. Heavy bursts of rain around Sicily. Showery rain for Greece . Heavy snow for the mountains of the southern Balkans. Dry and fairly warm for Spain and Portugal, highs of 13 to 17C, warmest south.
