Improving later in week

Changeable weather continues into the new week, with low pressure across the country bringing areas of rain or heavy showers. An improvement is likely through midweek as pressure builds from the west. Fairly cool, with blustery winds at times.

Tuesday 08/08/17
Shallow low pressure centred toward the east of Britain brings an unsettled day. Remnants of fronts give some persistent rain in the south-east in the morning, then showers breaking out widely, with locally frequent rain, and some heavy and thundery downpours possible by afternoon. Gusty winds at times. Feeling cool where rain lingers. Highs 16 to 21C.

Wednesday 09/08/17
Low pressure over the North Sea produces a cool northerly pattern. Areas of showers, most widespread across eastern and perhaps southern England. Some local heavy and persistent bursts of rain. Showers may be frequent too in northern Scotland. Scatter showers in the west, with spells of sunshine. Highs 15 to 20C.

Thursday 10/08/17
High pressure centred toward the south-west builds slowly across Britain, giving a fair day for most places. Good spells of sunshine. A few showers remain possible in the east of England. A fresh north-westerly breeze, strongest on North Sea coasts. Feeling warmer in the sun, highs 17 to 22C, warmest south.

Friday 11/08/17
Fronts moving back in from the Atlantic are likely to bring outbreaks of rain to north-western Britain & Ireland, whilst high pressure toward the south should keep central & southern regions dry and bright. Warm in the south-east. Highs 18 to 23C.

Saturday 12/08/17
A westerly flow across the country, and weakening fronts are likely to sink southwards. Patchy rain, or a few showers, mainly in the west & north-west, whilst eastern areas should be largely dry. Breezy. Highs 17 to 23C, warmest south.

Sunday 13/08/17
A mixed westerly pattern continues, although southern areas should escape largely dry. Some rain or showers in the north. Temperatures 17 to 23C.
