Heavy rain west & north Sunday-Monday

The weather will remain changeable over the next few days. A former Atlantic hurricane brings a threat of heavy rain and strong winds for Sunday and Monday. It will feel very humid in the south. However, this tropical system is expected to trigger a change of pattern by midweek, with a fair spell of weather developing.

Sunday 20/08/17
A warm front approaches from the south-west, bringing rain to Wales & Ireland, which will spread slowly to north-west England, perhaps Scotland. The south-west is likely to be murky with patchy rain or drizzle. Toward the east of Britain, it should be dry much of the day, with sunshine turning hazy then cloud filling in. Rain may extend across the Midlands from the west later. A freshening south-westerly breeze. Highs 18 to 23C.

Monday 21/08/17
Low pressure toward the north-west with slow-moving fronts draped across the west & north of Britain. A risk of prolonged heavy rain for parts of Scotland, northern England, Wales & Ireland. Rain may pass east across central areas through the day. The south of England may escape largely dry - feeling warm and humid with some sunshine. Breezy, perhaps windy in the north. Temperatures ranging from 16C in rain, up to 25C in the south.

Tuesday 22/08/17
Showers are likely for northern regions, perhaps a few breaking out for eastern counties during the day. Locally, rain may be frequent or persistent for northern Britain, although confidence of detail is low. Pressure is expected to build from the west. Breezy again - a risk of strong winds in the north. Quite humid in the south, fresher north. Highs 17 to 24C.
 

Wednesday 23/08/17
High pressure is expected to build across the British Isles, probably centred toward the west, bringing a settled spell of weather by midweek. Most places dry with a good deal of sunshine. Winds dropping light, although a fresh breeze may affect North Sea coasts. Highs 18 to 23C.

Thursday 24/08/17
Most likely dry for all as high pressure resides across the country. Plenty of sunshine. Light winds and coastal sea breezes. A cool start, but a pleasant day, highs 19 to 23C.

Friday 25/08/17
Most places should stay dry with sunshine. Weak fronts may encroach into northern Scotland, bringing thicker cloud to the north-west, perhaps a little rain in the far north. Highs 19 to 24C.
