Issued: 0930hrs Tuesday 23rd May 2017 Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson
Some low cloud and coastal fog
High pressure to the east will draw in very warm air from continental Europe later this week. Temperatures will climb toward 30C for some. Over the weekend, the humidity is likely to trigger thunderstorms moving up from the south-west, resulting in torrential downpours locally.

Friday 26/05/16 A hot and humid day, with lots of sunshine for most places. High pressure lies to the east, whilst low pressure will be around Biscay. A front over the Atlantic brings a risk of thundery rain for the west of Ireland, and later south-western Britain. Some fog patches are possible around coasts in the south & east. A south-easterly breeze will freshen. Highs 25 to 28C, perhaps locally warmer, but a little cooler on the east coast.
Saturday 27/05/16 A south-easterly breeze continues to affect the country, maintaining very warm air across most regions. Sunshine may be rather hazy. Some coastal fog. Low pressure toward the south-west is likely to bring areas of thundery rain to Ireland and south-western Britain. Later in the day, or overnight into Sunday, plumes of thunderstorms may track further north across Britain, although eastern areas may escape these. Highs 24 to 28C, cooler in rain.
Sunday 28/05/16 Confidence becomes low later in the weekend as outbreaks of thunderstorms are expected to advance northwards across the country. A risk of torrential downpours for some. Lowering humidity will follow from the west. Sunshine generally hazy at best. Areas of low cloud and fog around coasts and hills. Light winds overall. Still warm, particularly in the east, 20 to 25C.
Monday 29/05/16 Detail is very uncertain after the weekend. High pressure may start to build from the south-west early next week. There is a risk of further thundery plumes moving from France into southern Britain should humidity remain high here. Many places should see a dry day with some sunshine, and feeling fresher in the north & west. Light winds. Temperatures 17 to 23C.
Tuesday 30/05/16 Low confidence: High pressure may well extend back across the country, bringing fair weather and some warm sunshine, although not as humid as previous days. Residual areas of thundery rain may affect southern Britain. Highs 17 to 22C.
Wednesday 31/05/16 Again, confidence is low: Many areas probably fair, with sunny spells. Fronts over the Atlantic may push cloud and patchy rain into the north-west. Light winds overall. Temperatures 17 to 22C.
