Plenty of sunshine in west

Thursday 04/05/17
A brisk easterly wind affects the country as high pressure remains to the north of Scotland. Dry for most areas - the best of the sunshine for western regions. A few showers are possible, mainly in the south-east. Feeling cool on North Sea coasts, at just 10 or 11C. Reaching 13 or 14C in central areas, whilst sheltered spots to the lee of high ground in the west may top out at 17 or 18C.

Friday 05/05/17
Low pressure over Biscay tries to push fronts toward the south-west of Britain, bringing a risk of a few showers in the far south, but most places are expected to remain dry. Windy - easterly gales possible around exposed English Channel coasts. Sunshine remains best in the west. Partly cloudy in the east. Temperatures ranging from 10C on the east coast, to 13C inland, and 17C in the west.

Saturday 06/05/17
High pressure to the north is likely to remain in control, whilst low pressure slips away into central Europe. A cool north-easterly flow prevails, and conditions stay dry for most. Scattered brief showers may affect north-eastern districts. Sunshine again best in the west. Strongest winds in the south. Highs just 9 or 10C in the north-east, 15 to 17C in central & western areas.

Sunday 07/05/17
Little change to the pattern, with high pressure to the north-west producing a north-easterly flow across the British Isles. Dry for most, sunshine best in the west. A few showers for eastern coasts, and cool at 10C, but highs should reach 16C in central areas, locally 20C in the west.

Monday 08/05/17
North-easterly winds prevail, and a cooling trend is likely into the new week. Staying dry on the whole, and once again, sunshine is best in the west. Highs 10 to 17C, coolest east, warmest west.

Tuesday 09/05/17
Detail is uncertain, but heading into midweek the north-easterly flow may originate from a cooler source, bringing a risk of showers developing for some. Temperatures 10 to 16C.
