Dry next week, warmer
Rain for some this weekend

Issued: 0900hrs Wednesday 26th April 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Easterly winds developing

A transition to a south-easterly airflow will have taken place by the weekend, bringing a gradual rise in temperatures. Rain is expected to push into the south-west by Sunday, and could bring a wet May Day to some areas, before fading. Next week is looking warmer, although the easterly wind may feel rather cool.

Saturday 29/04/17
High pressure to the east and low pressure to the west produces a south-easterly flow across the British Isles. A fair day for many places with good spells of sunshine, and feeling warmer. Fair weather cloud filling in a little through the day. Fronts encroaching in slowly from the Atlantic bring thickening cloud to the west, and rain may develop later across Ireland. A freshening breeze. Highs 12 to 16C.

Sunday 30/04/17
Low pressure is likely to nudge slowly into the south-west. Fronts bring rain to south-western Britain & Ireland, which may set in for several hours, heavy at times. Patchy rain may make slow progress toward central areas, although amounts small. East & northern Britain should escape dry all day with sunshine. High cloud thickening slowly. Blustery winds, east or south-easterlies. Highs 11 to 16C, coolest in rain.

Monday 01/05/17
Low pressure stays to the south-west. Weakening fronts continue to drift north-eastwards, bringing a risk of patchy rain for central regions of Britain, but very little if any rain reaching the north & east. A few showers toward the south-west, but also sunny spells. Breezy, locally strong and gusty winds. Top temperatures 11 to 15C.

Tuesday 02/05/17
High pressure to the north-east is likely to extend back toward the British Isles, bringing fair weather to many places. The remnants of previous fronts may bring a lot of cloud, and a little rain, but should fade. An east to south-easterly breeze. Feeling warmer, highs 13 to 17C.

Wednesday 03/05/17
High pressure to the north should influence much of the country and bring continued fair weather during midweek. Partly cloudy skies, but some sunshine, best in the west. An easterly breeze. Highs 14 to 18C.

Thursday 04/05/17
A continued easterly flow maintains dry weather. Sunshine and warmth best in the west. Cooler with more cloud for North Sea coasts. Highs 13 to 18C.
