Thursday 05/01/17
High pressure over Britain is expected to subside away toward the south-east through the day. A frosty start for many areas. Dry with hazy sunshine, although cloud will thicken in the west and patchy rain develops later for western parts of Ireland and Scotland. Light winds for central & eastern regions. A freshening southerly breeze in the west. Temperatures 3 to 5C in the south & east, rising to 7 or 8C west & north.

Friday 06/01/17
Fronts extend south-eastwards across Britain, bringing mostly cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain, heaviest toward the north-west. Patchy rain extends to the Midlands, but the far south & south-east may escape largely dry. A mix of sunshine and showers will follow into Scotland. A south-westerly breeze brings milder air to northern areas, but the south stays cool. Highs 4 to 9C.

Saturday 07/01/17
A cloudy and damp day is likely. A slack westerly flow across the country. The remnants of previous fronts bring a lot of cloud, and patches of rain or drizzle, most persistent in the west. Pressure may begin to rebuild from the south-west. Fairly mild overall, 7 to 11C.

Sunday 08/01/17
A continued gentle westerly regime brings a lot of cloud, and a little rain to western coasts and hills. Central and eastern regions should be largely dry, with a little sun breaking through. Highs 7 to 11C.

Monday 09/01/17
Little change to the prevailing westerly pattern. Rain may turn persistent in the north-west as fronts approach from the Atlantic. Mainly dry in central & south-eastern areas. A freshening breeze, but mild. Highs 7 to 12C.

Tuesday 10/01/17
Timing uncertain, but fronts are likely to extend south-east across Britain, bringing some heavy bursts of rain. Showers will follow, which may turn wintry in the north later. Blustery winds. Highs 5 to 10C.
