Small amounts of rain south

After a couple of warmer days later this week, cooler air will return from the north this weekend, and it is expected to be chilly into next week too as northerly winds dominate. Snow is likely on the hills, at times to lower levels. Frosty nights common, but plenty of sunshine by day, and the air often very clear.

Friday 21/04/17
High pressure will be centred west of the British Isles. A weak cold front moves into Scotland, bringing a little rain. Much of Britain and Ireland will stay dry, with sunny spells, best in the south & east. A west to north-westerly breeze, but winds light in the south-west. Temperatures 10C in northern Scotland, 12 to 14C for Northern Ireland & north-west England & Wales, up to 15 to 17C for the Midlands & south.


Saturday 22/04/17
A cooler day for all, with a northerly flow across the British Isles. Many places staying dry, with a good amount of sunshine, best toward the south-west. A few showers in north-eastern districts - wintry over the mountains. Winds fairly light. Temperatures only 7 to 10C for northern Britain & Ireland, 11 or 12C in the Midlands, up to 14 or 15C in the far south & south-west.


Sunday 23/04/17
High pressure remains in charge, and may build back across southern Britain. Dry overall, with sunshine best in the south. Isolated brief showers in the north. Widespread frost likely at dawn. Light winds. Daytime highs 8 to 13C.

 
 
 


Monday 24/04/17
Likely staying dry in the south, where it should be a little warmer. Fronts push into the north-west, bringing rain and hill snow to Scotland & Northern Ireland, later northern England. Risk of frost. Highs 8 to 14C, warmest south-east.

Tuesday 25/04/17
A cold north to north-westerly wind. Showery rain, most widespread in the north, with snow on the hills, perhaps to low levels in Scotland. Sunny spells in the south. Highs 7 to 12C.

Wednesday 26/04/17
A chilly northerly pattern is likely to continue, with high pressure to the west. Areas of showers, wintry at times, most frequent in the east. Sunny spells. Frost likely. Highs 7 to 12C.
