Changeable into the weekend
Improving next week

Issued: 1000hrs Tuesday 5th June 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Wettest west & north

A series of low pressure systems will affect the British Isles this week, bringing frequent rain to west and northern Britain in particular. Fairly cool in the north, although the south becomes warmer later this week. Indications favour a build of pressure into next week, which should bring quieter weather for a few days.

Thursday 08/06/17
Low pressure to the west pushes fronts across Britain & Ireland. Heavy rain for west & northern areas, setting in for much of the day. Occasional rain reaching central areas, but very little toward the south-east, where some sunshine is likely. Northern Scotland too may escape with little rain. Blustery south-westerly winds, local gales possible near western coasts. Temperatures 15C or below in rain, up to 22C in the south-east.

Friday 09/06/17
Another area of low pressure lies to the west, bringing another batch of heavy rain to Ireland and western Britain. Pulses of rain are also likely to run north-eastwards across Britain. Drier toward the Midlands and south-east, although a chance of local thundery rain should humidity rise. Staying breezy, or windy in the west. Highs 16 to 18C north-west, 20 to 23C south-east.

Saturday 10/06/17
Staying changeable with low pressure centred over northern Britain. Clusters of frequent showers giving some longer periods of rain at times, particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. A brisk south-westerly wind. Sunny spells, generally best in the east. Highs 17 to 19C north, 20 to 22C south, locally warmer south-east.

Sunday 11/06/17
Another day of rain or showers for northern Britain, whilst showers should be more scattered further south. Some sunshine, and feeling warmer toward the south-east. Breezy, south-westerly winds. Highs 16 to 22C, perhaps 24C south-east.

Monday 12/06/17
Some indication of pressure beginning to build early next week, allowing things to settle down a little. Expect a mix of sunshine and scattered showers, these mainly in northern areas. Feeling fresh at 14 to 21C, warmest south.

Tuesday 13/06/17
High pressure likely toward the south-west, bringing a bright day for many with a good deal of sunshine. Showers remain possible in the north & east, although well scattered. Highs 16 to 22C.
