Cooler again by weekend

Issued: 1000hrs Monday 17th April 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Thursday 20/04/17
High pressure will be centred toward the south-west of the British Isles, resulting in a general westerly flow across the country. Winds mostly light. Weak fronts bring a lot of cloud to the north & west, perhaps patches of drizzle on western coasts and hills, but most places will stay dry. Best chance for sunshine near the south coast and to the lee of high ground in the east. Highs 12 to 16C, warmest east.

Friday 21/04/17
The flow is likely to turn gradually north-westerly as the centre of high pressure drifts north. A weak cold front moves into Scotland, bringing a little rain. Much of Britain and Ireland will stay dry, with sunny spells, best in the south & east. Pleasantly warm in the south, but becoming cooler in Scotland - top temperatures ranging between 10 and 17C.

Saturday 22/04/17
A cooler day for all, with a northerly flow across the British Isles. Many places staying dry, with a good amount of sunshine, best toward the south-west. A few showers in north-eastern districts - wintry over the mountains. Temperatures only 7 or 8C along North Sea coasts, 10C in the Midlands, up to 13C in the south-west.

Sunday 23/04/17
Little change to the pattern. A cool north to north-westerly pattern. Dry for many, with sunshine best in the south. A few showers possible in the north & east. Risk of frost in the morning. Daytime highs 8 to 13C.

Monday 24/04/17
Likely staying dry in the south, whilst fronts may encroach into the north-west bringing rain and hill snow. Risk of frost. Winds west to north-westerly. Highs 9 to 14C, warmest south-east.

Tuesday 25/04/17
Remaining cool, with north-westerly winds continuing. Showery rain, and possible hill snow across the north. Sunny spells in the south. Highs 8 to 12C.
