Week ahead - October 21, 2016
Becoming much milder
Often dry south

Issued: 1000hrs Friday 21st October 2016
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Foggy mornings common

A change in the position of high pressure will move the wind direction from the current cool easterly, to a milder west or south-westerly during the week ahead. Some rain in the south early week, then mainly dry with early fog patches. Meanwhile, north-western Britain will see occasional rain come in from the Atlantic.

Monday 24/10/16
A slack south-easterly pattern and uncertainty regarding the progress of a front across southern Britain. Outbreaks of rain are likely to extend across southern counties of England & Wales, and may turn persistent for several hours. Areas of rain or drizzle for coasts in the east & north-east. Mostly light winds. Driest and brightest toward the north-west of Britain & Ireland. Rather cool where rain persists, 10 to 14C.

Tuesday 25/10/16
A benign pressure pattern is likely to influence the country. Frontal rain should clear from southern England, although may linger for a time in the south-east. A murky start for many places, some fog patches. Generally cloudy, although some sunshine may break through. Light winds overall, although a freshening south-westerly for western Ireland & Scotland may bring drizzle later. Slightly milder, highs 11 to 16C.

Wednesday 26/10/16
High pressure becomes established toward the south. A cool start, with local fog patches in the south. Most likely dry and bright for much of England & Wales, best sunshine toward the east & south. Fronts affect Scotland & Ireland, bringing rain in from the Atlantic, plus a fresh westerly breeze here. Light winds in the south. Highs 12 to 16C.

Thursday 27/10/16
High pressure is expected to remain across southern Britain, bringing fair weather to much of the country, light winds and morning fog patches. Some sunshine developing through the day, best in the east. Fronts grazing Scotland may bring rain to the far north-west. Feeling mild, highs 13 to 18C.

Friday 28/10/16
Little change to the pattern with high pressure across the south. Fog patches may persist for many hours locally keeping it cool. Some sunshine breaking through. Risk of rain in the far north-west as westerly winds affect Scotland. Mild, 14 to 18C.

Saturday 29/10/16
High pressure remains close to the south. Expect fog in the morning, but some sunshine breaking through. A west to south-westerly breeze in the north, bringing a risk of rain to north-west Scotland. Mild again at 14 to 18C, warmest south & east.
