Issued: 0930hrs Friday 10th February 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Often cloudy, some sun

Cold easterly winds this weekend bring snow flurries to many areas, although amounts will be generally small, and turning progressively to rain at low levels. Into next week, the airflow turns to the south-east or later south, bringing a gradual rise in temperatures - possibly becoming very mild.

Monday 13/02/17
A chilly south-easterly breeze affects the British Isles, strongest in southern areas, particularly around English Channel coasts. Mostly cloudy, although a little sun may break through across southern areas, and sunshine perhaps more widespread to the lee of high ground in the north-west. A little drizzle in north-eastern areas. Patchy rain may come and go in the far south-west. Highs 4 to 8C, locally milder south-west.

Tuesday 14/02/17
High pressure will be centred to the east of Britain, whilst weak fronts influence the south-west. An east to south-easterly breeze continues to affect the country, making it feel cool, but temperatures should lift a little from the south. Largely cloudy, some sunshine breaking through, best again toward the north-west. Risk rain or drizzle on and off much of the day in the far south-west, also southern Ireland. Highs 5 to 10C.

Wednesday 15/02/17
Weak fronts are likely to drift northwards, bringing patchy rain to western regions of Britain, also much of Ireland, although amounts small. Fairly cloudy overall, but some brightness should come through across central & eastern England. Possible local fog patches in the morning where winds drop light. Milder for most, ranging from 7 to 12C, warmest in the south.

Thursday 16/02/17
A mild southerly flow is likely. Weak fronts may bring occasional rain to the far north-west, but many places should be dry. Rather cloudy, perhaps some fog patches in the morning. Sunshine should break through, best toward the east and north-east. Winds mostly very light. Temperatures 8 to 12C, locally warmer.

Friday 17/02/17
A slack pressure regime maintains a quiet weather pattern. A little rain possible in the north-west, but much of the country should stay dry. Variable cloud and some sun. Local fog patches. Light winds. Highs 8 to 13C.

Saturday 18/02/17
High pressure should influence the British Isles, although a risk of fronts nudging into western regions. Largely dry and mild. Some rain in the west. Highs 7 to 12C.
