Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

A cold week then becoming more unsettled through the weekend

A cold week across the UK and Ireland. There will be showers and outbreaks of rain affecting the eastern coasts of England, but to the west it is likely to be drier and brighter with good spells of sunshine and the risk of an overnight frost. Becoming more unsettled and windy into the weekend and early next week, whilst remaining cold.

Thursday 20/10/16
Another cold day as low pressure brings showers to East Anglia and southeast England. Higher pressure extending across Ireland, northern and west parts of the UK. Plenty of sunshine to the north and west and remaining dry as well. Increasing cloud and some spots of rain may affect the Hebrides and the far west of Ireland. Highs at 11 to 14C.

Friday 21/10/16
Staying chilly on Friday with broken cloud and some showers affecting eastern England. Cloud and some rain in northwest Scotland as a front brushes through. For most a ridge of high pressure will be bringing fair conditions and it should be dry too. Plenty of sunshine for all and staying dry too. Highs at a chilly 10 to 14C.

Saturday 22/10/16
Low pressure over the Low Countries on Saturday, this blowing some cloud and further showers into eastern Scotland and eastern England. Drier elsewhere with sunny spells, the best of them to the west. Cloud increasing in Ireland and southwest England as fronts edge eastwards. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Sunday 23/10/16
Low pressure edges into southern Ireland on Sunday. This is going to be bringing a breezy day for all with rain arriving through southern Ireland, and southern England. Drier further north with broken cloud. A weak front lying northwest to southeast through Scotland gives some cloud and outbreaks of patchy rain here. Highs at 10 to 13C.

Monday 24/10/16
The area of low pressure is just south of the UK and Ireland on Monday. This pushes fronts northwards which give rain in much of Ireland, Wales and England. Breezy and cold in Scotland with some cloud and patchy rain on eastern coasts, but drier and brighter to the west. Temperatures at 15C in the far southwest, 10C in Scotland.

Tuesday 25/10/16
Low pressure stays to the south of the country on Tuesday with higher pressure to the north. Cloud and some rain in southern and eastern areas, but drier and brighter to the west. Cool with temperatures at 10 to 15C and windy to the north.
