Wet and windy tonight; stormy Thursday

Good morning,

A deep area of low pressure is centred over western Norway today, whilst a slow-moving front extends from west to east across central Britain, bringing cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain.

In the far south, it will be cloudy and mild with patchy drizzle, whilst in northern Britain expect brighter skies with some sunshine. Showery in north-west Scotland - snow for the Highlands. Gales in the far north-east will ease.

By the evening, a developing secondary low (named 'Storm Doris' by the Met Office) moves in quickly from the Atlantic, and heavy rain will set in for the north & west. Winds increasing to gale force, particularly around coasts in the west & south overnight. Risk of widespread gales for England & Wales into Thursday daytime.

Today's temperatures will range from 11 to 13C in the south, to 8 or 9C in the north.
