Morning Call - February 11, 2017
Cold and grey
Persistent sleet or snow

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 11th February 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Significant wind chill

Good morning,

High pressure extends from Scandinavia to the north of the British Isles. A cold north-easterly wind affects the country.

Persistent sleet or snow affects many areas, mostly light, but in some places may rarely cease all day, particularly in east and northern regions. A covering of snow is likely, with 2 to 5cm over the hills, greatest amounts on the eastern Pennines, North Yorks Moors and Scottish Borders.

At low levels, it is likely to turn mostly to rain, but beware of ice forming into the evening and night. Central-southern England, the far west & south-west should stay drier overall, with just patches of drizzle or snow flurries.

Grey skies extend across most areas. The best of any brightness will be in the far west, mainly western Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland, where sunshine should come through at times.

Today's top temperatures will be just 2 to 4C for most, locally nearer to 0C. Coastal areas in the west & south-west should reach 6C. Where exposed to the wind it will feel sub-zero.

Sunday keeps a cold and strong easterly wind, and areas of rain, sleet or hill snow will continue.

Have a great day.
Garry
